Biography

Mariano J. Martinez, 78 of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Monday August 6, 2012 at a local care center.

Prayer service will be 7:00pm Wednesday August 8, 2012 at the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.

Funeral service will be 10:00am Thursday August 9, 2012 at the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Israel Flores, pastor of Bethel Assembly of God church, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mariano was born March 17, 1934 in Del Rio, Texas to Guillermo and Nicolasa (Juarez) Martinez. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army.

Mariano worked in the packing industry at Texas Lamb and Swift. He married Edelmira Talamantez on May 22, 1959. They shared 53 wonderful years together.

He loved gardening and taking long walks to enjoy nature. He loved talking about the Lord to everyone; he was a man of many words and always had a story to tell. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and even though he was not able to finish his education, he encouraged them to succeed.


Pallbearers will be Carlos Martinez, Tyrone Martinez, Ruben Martinez, Ramon Zapata, Robert De La Rosa, and Ramiro Talamantez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter; Delia Martinez, grandson; Brandon Martinez, sister; Mary Hernandez, two brothers; Arturo and Raul Martinez.

Survivors include his wife; Edelmira Martinez of San Angelo, three sons; Mariano and wife, Linda of Santa Fe, N.M., Carlos and wife, Theresa of San Angelo and Richard Martinez of Dallas; daughter; Diane Duarte of San Angelo, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, four brothers; Paul, Ramon and Guillermo Martinez Jr. and Joe Martinez and a sister; Esther Garcia.
