Melba Virginia Sylvester

Melba Virginia Sylvester, 99, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023, in North Richland Hills, Texas surrounded by family.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 6, 2023, in a private service at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with her son, Dr. David Sylvester officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sylvester was born May 22, 1924 in Bunkerhill, Illinois to C.H. and Mable Wolff. Melba was raised in San Angelo. She attended North Texas State Teacher's College in Denton, Howard Payne College in Brownwood, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Melba married Pastor Chester Sylvester on January 23, 1945 in San Angelo. He passed away on April 23, 2015. She was a devoted pastor's wife and partnered with her husband in ministry in Texas Baptist churches for more than sixty years.

Survivors include her son, Dr. David Sylvester and wife Danéta of Hurst; her grandson, Andrew Sylvester and wife Katrina of Hurst; a niece, Shirley Essary Patterson of East Texas; a nephew, grandniece Judy Smith of East Texas, Warren Wolff of Havasu City, Arizona. Melba was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Newton Wolff, and Albert Wolff; and a sister, Faye Wolff Essary.
