Alex Franklin Sears Alex Franklin Sears, 62, of Wingate, Texas, passed away on December 18, 2011, at his home. Funeral services and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Alex's ranch, 14371 US Highway 277 South, Wingate, Texas, 79566. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Alex was born to Alexander Franklin Sears and Moreene Roberts Sears on April 7, 1949. He went to school at New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI). He graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1971. As part of his life-long love of classical music that he inherited from his mother, Alex played the cornet in the band at NMMI and Texas Tech. Upon graduation, Alex volunteered with the Peace Corps from 1971-1974 in Brazil. During this time, he worked with the Brazilian Agriculture Extension Service teaching better farming practices to small farmers in the interior state of Matto Grosso. Alex then returned to Lubbock and earned his J.D. from Texas Tech School of Law in 1978. He graduated with high honors and was an editor of the Texas Tech Law Review. He then went on to establish a law firm in San Angelo, where he practiced estate and probate law for over ten years. Upon the death of his adoptive father, Joe Lemley, Alex moved his law practice to Wingate in order to facilitate the management of the family ranches. He remained an active member of the Texas State Bar Association and the Texas Cattle Raisers Association. Alex is preceded in death by his father, Alexander Sears, his mother, Moreene Lemley, his adoptive father, Joe Lemley, and his brother, Robert Sears. Alex is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Mo Aziz, and by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Patrick Finucane.
