Alfonso (Poncho) was born on April 29, 1938, in Sonora, TX to David C. and Librada "Lilly" Trevino. He married his one and only true love, Patsy Ortiz, on January 24,1960 in San Angelo, TX. Poncho began his career working at various companies, such as, Goodyear Proving Grounds and Ace Builders, and retired from Angelo State University. He was always a dedicated employee and coworker and truly enjoyed the work he performed in all the positions he held.

Poncho's life-long passion was being a musician, a hobby he loved and enjoyed tremendously. He was both a singing and guitar playing member of several mariachi groups, La Amistad being one of them, for many, many years. With a voice like no other, this passion led to creating a professional CD which he shared with family and friends and for which he was extremely proud. He was well-known in the community and volunteered his time and talent on many special occasions.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and their choir for more than 40 years, a member of the North Side Lion's Club and The Knights of Columbus.

Alfonso was preceded in death by his parents, David C., and Lilly Trevino; his father and mother-in-law, JB and Betty Ortiz; his brothers Arcadio (and the mother of his children, Rosa), David and Adam (and wife Georgina) Trevino; and a sister Bessie Reyes.

He is survived by his wife, of sixty-five years, Patsy Trevino; his three daughters, Lisa & Arnold Cavazos; Grace & Doug Myers; Susie & Ron Ruppel; two granddaughters, Catarina & Andreah Ponce, and their father, Daniel Ponce; grandson, Jason & wife Lori Martinez; great grandson, Jucel & wife Alina Martinez and two great, great grandchildren, Jasper and Levi Martinez; his brother, Armando Trevino & wife Margaret, his sister, Elisa Trevino and sister-in-law, Elida Trevino; sisters-in-law, Lucy & husband Luis Placencia, Susie & husband Ben Winters, Clara & husband Charlie Zavala; one brother-in-law, Jerry Ortiz; and many nephews, nieces and cousins on both sides of the family.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Kindred Hospice of San Angelo, New Century Hospice & Suncrest Hospice of San Antonio for the special care they provided our dad. The family would also like to thank all the staff at Las Colinas Rehabilitation Center for the careful attention they also provided our beloved dad. Lastly, a sincere and special Thank You to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital and Vitas Hospice (both of San Antionio) for the dedicated and specialized care they provided our dad in his last days.

Our dad loved history, having conversations about WWII, and traveling. He was blessed to see many beautiful cities and countries around the world, including all around Germany, Rome, Italy, the beaches of Normandy, Paris, France and Cairo, Egypt. He especially enjoyed the food at all these exotic places!

Additionally, he was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan; supporter of the San Angelo Bobcats and greatly enjoyed his Texas Rangers and Houston Astros!

Alfonso will be remembered as a sweet, gentle and kind human being with his infectious smile; he never met a stranger, was a man who loved his family deeply, was an exceptional husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend, neighbor and coworker. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Pallbearers will be Arnold Cavazos, Ron Ruppel, Doug Myers, Daniel Ponce, Jason Martinez and Jesse Sanchez; honorary pallbearer, Jerry Ortiz.

Matthew 28:20: Fear not for I am with you even until the end of the age.
