Alfred grew up on the family farm in Cisco, Rowena and then Grape Creek, where he worked to help his Dad pay off the first FHA loan in Tom Green County. Alfred served his Country as an infantryman in the US Army from May of 1944 to November of 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart from injuries sustained in actions at the Rhineland Forrest Battle. Alfred realized the value of land and purchased two farms in the Eola Community. He worked from sun-up to after dark seven days a week at the Eola Service Station for over 60 years. He loved the people and was always warm and friendly to all those who stopped in the station for the full service as offered in those days or just to share in some of the Eola news or "Tonne's" wit and humor. He knew every little kid in town, as well as most of their relatives. He had many lasting relationships and cherished those rare moments when he was able to sit down at the domino table for a game with his friends. He was instrumental in helping establish the Eola Water Corporation and served on the Board for numerous years. Alfred was a charter member of Eola Volunteer Fire Dept.
