ALPHA LATAINE BANKHEAD

ALPHA LATAINE BANKHEAD

LaTaine was born on September 14, 1914 to Joe and Agnes Coalson Cotner . On January 1, 1933, LaTaine married Ryan Bankhead in Sweetwater, Texas. Survivors include daughters; LaNell Dixon and husband Ron, and Anita Young and husband, John Young Brother B.T. and wife, Melba Evans; sister-In-Law Vernelle Evans; grandsons Jonathan Dixon, Jon and wife, Debbie Young, Bill and wife, Sandy Young , Robert and wife, Lori; Dixon; granddaughters ; Jennifer and husband, Scott Bowman, Melissa Calley and Lee Ann and Syd Ash. LaTaine is also survived by sixteen great- grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild. LaTaine was preceded in death by her husband, Ryan Bankhead and granddaughter, Shawn Kimbrow. She was a longtime member of the Johnson Street Church of Christ before moving to Midland in 2000, where she attended Golf Course Road Church of Christ. LaTaine possessed sensitivity to the needs of others. She was an ever-present comfort to those who experienced loss or tragedy, and brought her famous pound cake to each. Like Dorcus, LaTaine chose to serve in multiple ways. She and husband Ryan initiated Thirty-Niner'™s as well as Children'™s Hour at Johnson Street Church. Both were counselors at the annual summer Camp Victory for many years. A service to celebrate her life will be held at Johnson Street Church of Christ on Friday April 3, 2009 at 10:00AM with Tommy King officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. A family visitation will be held at Robert Massie Funeral Home on Thursday April 2, 2009 from 5-7:00 P.M. Memorial may be sent to Home Hospice, 901 W. Missouri, Midland, Texas 79701.
