Bryan, TX - Andres Gomez Montez Jr, 78 years old went to be with the Lord on April 26, 2021, at the VA Hospital in Temple, TX.
Viewing will be at Robert Massie Funeral Home on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 4 pm with rosary to follow at 6 pm and Christian Burial on May 1, 2021 at 10 am at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Mertzon, TX with Father Anthony Franco Officiating, burial to follow at Mertzon Cemetery. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Andres was born on August 27, 1942 to Andres Flores Montez Sr. and Ysabel Gomez Montez in San Angelo, Texas and raised in Mertzon, TX. He graduated from Mertzon High School in 1962 and was drafted into the United States Army in 1964 to 1966, he was a Vietnam Veteran. Andres was a Catholic and a Crusillista. Andres married Estella Garza Montez in 1966 with whom he had 4 children and later married Lydia Rodriguez Montez in 1993.
Andres is survived by his wife of 28 years Lydia R. Montez, 4 children Manuela Estella (Mita) Montez (Adolfo Moreno) of San Angelo, Andres G Montez III (Michelle) of Temple, Tx, Ida M. Montez of San Angelo and Jose G Montez of San Angelo. He had 11 grandchildren: Megan J Montez, Jesse M Montez, Daniela A DelaCruz, Stephen M Rosas, Antonio J Montez, Emilio J Montez (Brittany), Dylan A Ortega, Marissa D Mims (Matthew), Nathan Ybarra, Jose A Montez and Araceli V Montez. He also had 4 great grandchildren: Alyssa N DelaCruz, Rudy A DelaCruz, Angelica M DelaCruz and Kaiden Lias. Three siblings: Ignacio G Montez Sr. (Ana) of San Diego, CA, Mary Mendoza (Mario Sr.) Mercedes, TX, Josie Montez Chacon (Jesse Sr.) of Shafter, CA and sister-in-law Bertha Montez of Mertzon, TX. He had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and stepdaughters as well as step grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents Andres Sr and Ysabel Montez, his brother Pablo Montez Sr and sisters Maria Elena Montez, Manuelita Montez and niece Isabel Montez.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Jesse M Mendoza, Stephen M Rosas, Antonio J Montez, Emilio J Montez, Jose A Montez, step grandson Rick Prado. Honorary Pallbearers grandson Nathan Ybarra and nephews: Ignacio Montez Jr, Pablo Montez Jr, Miguel Montez, Jesse Chacon Jr, Mario Mendoza Jr, Augustine Montez and Joseph Chacon.
The family would like to thank the staff of K3 at the VA Hospital in Temple, TX for the care that was given to Andres during his stay.
The funeral mass will be recorded, due to the churches remote location live stream may not be possible; however the service will be available for viewing after the video has been uploaded.
