Albert (AL) Carroll Word 69 passed away on Friday January 9, 2015 in San Angelo. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015 in Cedar Grove Cemetery located in Sanderson, TX with Bob Welch of First Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. He was born September 24, 1945 to James and Ellen Word Sr. in Sanderson, TX. He grew up in Sanderson, TX and graduated at Sanderson High School. In his younger years he helped his father James run the Exxon station and parts store in Sanderson and had also owned and operated the former Western Hills Motel in Sanderson in which a fond memory of his was when the actor George Peppard rented the whole back wing for himself and his film crew who stopped and stayed there on their way back to California after filming a movie south east of the Sanderson area. Albert moved to El Paso and worked in Real Estate for a while, also lived in Ft. Worth before buying a home in San Angelo and going back to help run the family ranch in Terrell County. He married Annie Batten in 1974 raising her 2 children William (Billy) and Deborah (Debbie) as his own. He retired to his home in San Angelo to enjoy relaxing and fishing at the family home on the lake with his step son William taking over management of the Word Family Ranch in Terrell County in 2009. He is survived by his wife Annie of San Angelo, step son William Batten and Wife Michele, Grandson Brandon Batten of San Angelo, step son in law Bruce Cornevin of Spring, Granddaughter Crystalynn Nicole Cornevin of San Antonio, Cousins Dr. Paul & Beverly Weyerts of Alpine, their children Albert Thorn and wife Sheri of Sanderson, Robert Weyerts of Ft. Stockton and Lucy Womack and family of Alpine and numerous other cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother James D. Word Jr. and parents James D. Word and Ellen Appel Word, mother in law Sophie L. Christmann and step daughter Deborah J. Cornevin. The family requests memorials may be made to the denomination of your choice.
