Berta C. Archer, 81 of San Angelo passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, in San Angelo, Following a lengthy illness of complications from COPD and Pseudomonas. Rosary service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in the Holy Angels Catholic Church Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in the Holy Angels Catholic Church Chapel with Father Balachandra Nagipogu, parochial vicar, officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Holy Angels Columbarium. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Berta was born on July 1, 1936 in Ballinger, TX to Felix and Petra Cortez. She was a certified transportation officer from the schools of Fr. Eustis near Newport News, VA and San Francisco, CA. Berta then worked for the civil service as a transportation officer where she coordinated the moves of military personnel belongings throughout the U.S. and overseas. Berta and Richard F. Archer were married on July 4, 1981 in Reno, NV after which they moved and lived in Germany for three years, allowing Berta to retire. Following the move to Sierra Vista, AZ, Berta served in every area of ministry in St. Andrew's parish including Choir, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Hospitality Ministry, CCD instructor, Ladies of St. Andrew's, Altar Guild, and Hostess for Funeral Luncheon ministry. Berta and Richard enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the United States. During one of the trips, she had the privilege of meeting Pope John Paul II. Berta and Richard also had the honor of attending the inauguration of President Bill Clinton. While traveling in Israel, Berta enjoyed riding a camel. Richard preceded Berta in death on January 31, 2011. Berta is survived by her brother Bob Cortez and wife Mary of San Angelo; special niece, Veronica Whiting and husband Andrew of California; daughter Pat Salaiz and husband Adrian of Sierra Vista, AZ, 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; brothers Rudy (Beatrice) Cortez, Oscar (Esther) Cortez of San Angelo, Felix Cortez of Rowena; sisters, Otilia (John) Reyes, Mante Martinez of San Angelo and Hermalinda Garcia of Ballinger. The family suggests memorials to The American Lung Association, Holy Angels Catholic Church or Hospice of San Angelo.
