BETTE SLAGEL BENNIE

Bette Slagel Bennie, 77, of San Angelo passed away Saturday, July 8, 2006 in San Angelo after a courageous and determined battle with cancer. Family visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday July 10, 2006 at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Robert Hedges of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, officiating. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Bette was born in Colorado City, August 19, 1928, to Hazen P. "Cap" and Lottie Landers Slagel. She and Bill H. Bennie were married in Odessa, on February 14, 1969. Together they raised two children. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Bill H. Bennie of San Angelo, one son, Arthur Spragg and wife, Elia of San Angelo, one daughter, Shannon Bannowsky and Jeff G. Smith of San Angelo, one sister, Catherine Shelton of La Jolla, Calif, two nephews, two granddaughters, one great-grandson, her dog Mini Bennie, and various grand-dogs and cats that brought Bette great joy. Bette was an extremely private and humble person. Once people got to know her, they grew to love and respect her. Her great strength, love, and concern for all will never be replaced.
