Betty Joyce Jones Kinnard, 89, passed away on June 25, 2022, in San Angelo.
Betty was born on April 26, 1933 to Clyde and Birtie Lee (Whitely) Jones in Royalty. She was the eldest of four.
She attended school in Grandfalls-Royalty, Cottonwood, Cross Plains, Brownwood, and Zephyr. Betty never actually received her high school degree but continued her education non the less. She attended Cisco Jr. College and received her bachelor's degree from McMurry College. She later received her master's degree from Abilene Christian College.
Betty taught in many school districts including Eastland, Roscoe, Loraine, Trent, Robert Lee, Ozona, retiring in 1992. In 1993, she began and completed Dyslexic Training under Aylett Cox and worked for the James Phillip Williams Foundation until 1997. Betty then fulfilled a dream to teach at an Indian Reservation in Zuni, New Mexico.
Betty loved to travel. She was able to visit 39 of the 50 states. Some of her trips included Washington, DC., Disney, Seattle, Yellowstone, Alaska, Hawaii, NYC, Canada, Mexico, The Bahamas, and the Panama Canal.
Betty is survived by her three children, Clayton Kinnard of Canon City, Colorado.; Cindy Lewis of San Angelo, and Christy Kvapil and husband Ken of Ballinger; grandsons, Jason Lewis and wife Lyndi of Colorado Spring, Colorado, and Connor Kvapil of Lubbock; great grandchildren, TatumGrace Lewis and Johnathan and Sterling Murphy; her siblings; Roy Jones and wife Christine of San Angelo; Twila Walker and Clydene Olson both of Brownwood; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers-in-law, Dudley Walker and Byron Olson.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 1, 2022, at Grace Fellowship Church, 609 North 9th Street, Ballinger, Texas.
