Bill W. Lofton

Billy Wayne Lofton entered the world at home in Bessmay, Texas May 14, 1949; and he departed August 27th at Nolan Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sweetwater, Texas. He was the youngest of five children born to Herman and Oma Lofton. Bill was raised in the piney woods of East Texas, but grew to love the open skies and sunsets of West Texas. Bill was a Christian, and his heart belonged to Jesus. He was a member of Lakeview Bible Church. Born with wanderlust, he was a traveler all of his days. He proudly served in the Army, following his brothers and joining when he turned 18. A jack-of-all-trades, he worked around the world as an electrician on offshore rigs, built swimming pools, operated a dairy, taught fifth grade, and ended his career as a nursing home administrator. He had a passion for the outdoors, horses, snow skiing, hunting, fishing, and golf; but most of all he loved riding his horse, Black Jack, with the Ft. Concho Cavalry. Bill deeply loved his family. He leaves behind his wife, Shelly; son, Scott and Alisa Lofton of Frisco; daughter, Heather Lofton of Pflugerville; stepsons Mike and Rachel Weddel of New Braunfels; and Kelly Weddel of Houston; sisters, Marci Rogers of San Angelo, Bennie and Richard Brookshire of Lufkin, and brother, Jim and Petra Lofton of Pecos. GrandDad is survived by five grandchildren whom he adored - Bailey Rushing, Kylie Lofton, Jackson "Mississippi" Rushing, Keira Lofton, and Rian Weddel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Oma Lofton, and brother, Homer Lofton. Uncle Bill is survived by many beloved nephews and nieces; and Wild Bill a host of dear friends. To those who came to sit with Bill, called, sent cards, did the chores, and brought food, it meant so much to us. A special thanks to Lee and Lisa Campbell; Donna Rich and the Daybreak Venture family; the amazing staff at Nolan Nursing & Rehabilitation Center; Sam Davenport; Roger and Connie Hill, Billie Clydene Neighbors, Kathy Dill; and most especially our families - God bless you for your many kindnesses. Happy Trails Bill, until we meet again in Heaven. Visitation will be 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 30th with the family present from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 31st at 10:00 am at Robert Massie Funeral Home, 402 Rio Concho Drive, San Angelo, Texas. A reception for family and friends will follow at Ft. Concho. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the West Texas Boys Ranch, VFW Post 1836 in Lufkin, Texas, or the missions program at Lakeview Bible Church.
