Charles Vance Ashmore passed away on Monday September 9, 2013, at the age of 72 at an area care center. Vance was born to J.C. (Jake) Ashmore and Cora Faye (Wilkerson) Ashmore. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beth Ann (Fleming) Ashmore; his daughter, Valerie Jaton (Ashmore) Giese, her husband Doug Giese, and two grandsons Jace Giese and Miles Giese, all of San Angelo, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Vance graduated from Central High School in 1961. He retired from Goodyear Proving Grounds and worked for Western Iron Works. Vance enjoyed drag racing almost all of his life. He made many friends through drag racing, rod runs, coin collecting, swap meets and playing volleyball. Vance remained very active until he became ill. The family would like to thank Bronte Nursing Home for the loving care that he was treated with during his last year of life. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to be sent to Bronte Nursing Home. Honorary pallbearers will be Ashley Ashmore, Andy Allen, Wesley Clary, Russ Root, Ronnie Hohertz and Ben Rathbone. Graveside services will be 2:00pm Thursday, September12th, 2013 at Mertzon Cemetery with Jim Stanley, of Angelo Bible Church, officiating. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home.
