Charlie McClain Cravy passed away Thursday, February 02, 2006 in a local nursing home. Graveside service will be held at 3:30 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ken Dahlberg of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church and grandson, Rev. Dan Cravy officiating. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Mr. Cravy was born December 8, 1911 in Post, Texas to Will and Mattie Cravy. He grew up on the family ranch with four brothers and two sisters. While earning his degree from Texas Tech University, he taught and was a principal in rural West Texas schools. During this time he met and married Alva Ince of Spur, Texas. He told her that while he could not give her the moon and the stars, he would promise her sons. They had three sons. When the boys were born, Charlie was managing the Slaughter Ranch in Morton, Texas. The family moved to Lubbock in 1952 where they lived until Charlie's retirement in 1976. During these years he was an area supervisor for Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Company. His area extended from El Paso up into the Panhandle and down into Central Texas. San Angelo was part of his territory at one time. Though Charlie often traveled during the week, he was able to serve his church in many roles over the years. He was also a Mason and a Shriner for over sixty years. Retirement took Charlie and Alva to Pagosa Springs, CO., where they golfed, fished and entertained family and friends. During the winter they usually left their home in Colorado and took their travel trailer to warmer areas such as Harlingen where they continued to golf and fish. When they moved to San Angelo in 1987, they put the trailer at Lake Ivie and fished there. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and his brothers and sisters. He is remembered lovingly by his sons Charlie McClain Junior and wife, Sharon of Dallas, William Daniel Cravy and wife, Vala of San Angelo, Ray Lewis Cravy and wife, Kathy of Denver, CO., as well as five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks goes to the staff of Meadow Creek Nursing Center for their kindness and care, especially Mrs. Alvey and Blossom Muncey
