CLARA SCHLEGEL SCHLEGEL

Clara Schlegel Schlegel, 91, of San Angelo went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 3, 2008. She was born April 27, 1916, in Ness County, Kansas, to Henry C. and Scharlotta Kerbs Schlegel. She graduated from Ness County Schools and, on September 7, 1940, was married to Herbert J. Schlegel, in Ness City, Kansas. Clara was a homemaker, served as Sunday School Superintendent for Otis, Kansas, Methodist Church, was a businesswoman, owned a fast food restaurant in McCamey, Texas, and worked as a bookkeeper for two pharmacies. She was a cancer survivor of 25 years and was a volunteer at Community Medical Center after moving to San Angelo in 1984. Clara and Herb had two daughters: Lola Schlegel Squyres and Scharlotta Schlegel Smith. Services will be held at Robert Massie Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Ken Dahlberg of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will following immediately at Lawnhaven Cemetery. Survivors include daughter, Lola Schlegel Squyres, and her husband, Jim of San Angelo, as well as her son-in-law, Robert Smith of San Angelo. She is also survived by four granddaughters: Tammy Smith Modgling of Sonora, Shelly Squyres Hughes of Sonora, Holly Smith Huckabee of Katy, and Kelly Squyres Duke of San Angelo. Also, included are great-grandchildren: Justin McDaniel of Amarillo, Kelli Lovelace of Junction, Heather Hughes of Sonora, Leslie Huckabee of Katy, Bradley Huckabee of Katy, Hunter Hughes of Sonora, Riley Dean Duke of San Angelo, and Dixon Duke of San Angelo. Her three great great-grandchildren are Shane McDaniel, Amber Grace Salinas, and Emily Lovelace. She is also survived by two siblings: Viola Felzien and Wesley "Pete" Schlegel, both of Ness City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert J. Schlegel, her daughter, Scharlotta Schlegel Smith, her parents, and eight siblings. Pallbearers will be Greg Duke of San Angelo, Sam Hughes of Sonora, Jim Modgling of Sonora, Pete Schlegel of Ness City, Kansas, Jim Squyres of San Angelo, and Robert Smith of San Angelo. The family appreciates the compassionate care of Vista Care Hospice and would especially like to thank the staff at Meadow Creek Nursing Center, South, for their tireless dedication and devotion. Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice, American Diabetes Association, or the charity of choice.
