Cora Helen Marshall, 93, of San Angelo passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at her residence. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Chaplain J. T. Tucker of VistaCare Hospice, officiating. Helen was born in Del Rio, TX on January 1, 1916 to Dee and Ada Hill. After graduating from Del Rio High School, she attended business school before moving to Quemado, TX to go to work for the Farm Security Administration. While working for the FSA, she met and later married Maurice W. Marshall, Sr. on September 26, 1937 in San Antonio. They moved to Beeville where Maurice, Jr. was born in 1940. In 1943, they moved back to Quemado to take up farming. Their daughter, Roberta Dee was born in Eagle Pass that same year. After several moves, the family settled in San Angelo. Helen started a secretarial service while still being a homemaker for her children and husband. Helen and Maurice, Sr. also started an antique store by the name of Kountry Korner on North Chadbourne. Once both had retired, they loved to travel in their travel trailer visiting such states as AZ, CO and NM. After her children and husband one of her loves were her dolls. Helen loved collecting, making dolls and was a member of the local doll society. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Angelo. Helen was the oldest of seven; she is preceded by all but the youngest; also preceding her was her daughter in 1998. Helen is survived by her son, Maurice W. Marshall, Jr. of San Angelo; granddaughter, Donna Dee Richardson and husband, Michael of Mesquite; brother, John L. Hill and wife, Phyllis of Natalia, TX; and cousin, Dora Perkins and husband, Frank of San Angelo. The family would like to express its special appreciation to Dr. Roberta Hinshaw and everyone at Shannon Clinic and to Cynthia, Dale, J.T., Rachel, Randa and Steve of VistaCare Hospice, for all their professional and loving care.
