Crystal Faye Kleppner

Chrystal Faye Kleppner peacefully went to the loving arms of the Lord on November 18, 2017. She was born January 12, 1926 in Wall, Texas to Luther and Opal Wood on the family farm. She attended grammar school in Wall sometimes riding a horse to school with her sister. Upon graduation she enrolled in San Angelo High School from which she graduated in 1943. While attending San Angelo College she worked briefly at Lakeview High School as a clerk and was called on to substitute for absent teachers. She would later admit going into a class horrified her as she no idea what to do. She moved on to train as a telephone operator while still attending college. In a town overrun with soldiers she could not walk down the street without young men approaching her, many of whom were left in her wake. One day while outside the rooming house for young women where she was living, a young bombardier, recently returned from a combat tour in Europe, approached another girl in the group. After he noticed her, he struck up a long conversation and eventually offered her his wings - the World War II version giving a girl your fraternity pin. In October of 1945 she married the officer, Clarence ‘Scotty' Kleppner in Wall School auditorium. There she was in her wedding gown and bridesmaids dressed to the nines on one side and on the other side a line of Army Air Force officers on. They moved to Maywood, Illinois a suburb of Chicago where they would twice live before settling down in San Angelo in 1948 for the rest of their lives. She lived here as a housewife happily raising her family. Everyone who knew her always commented on her pleasant personality and easy smile. As a mother she hovered over her children keeping them in good health and making sure they got their homework done. If asked what she thought her greatest accomplishment would have been, she would have proudly announced her children and grandchildren. She was a very loving mother and wife until the very end. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Clarence. Chrystal is survived by her son Ronald Kleppner of San Angelo, Tx. and her daughter Sherry Crowder and husband James of San Angelo, Tx. Grandchildren Angela Brooks and husband Andrew of San Angelo, Tx and Jason Kleppner of San Angelo Tx. Sister Virginia Brodnax and husband Boley of Wall, Tx . Nephew Barry Broadnax and wife Denise of Wall, Tx, and nieces Elliott Menchaca and husband Ricky of Wall, Tx; and Terry Merka of San Angelo, Texas. We would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Meadow Creek Nursing Center for all of their loving care they gave our mother.
