DAVID LEWIS JOHANSON

David Lewis Johanson, 54, passed away on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008 at the Heart Hospital of Austin after complications from a heart surgery. Born January 25, 1954 in Marlin, TX to Albert Sydney and Georgia Porter Johanson, David and his family moved to San Angelo in 1955. After graduating from Central High School in 1972, David attended Texas Tech University where he graduated in 1976 with a degree in agricultural economics. For seventeen years, David worked as a real estate appraiser in Lubbock where he met and married Farla Gerner Knight and they welcomed two boys, Adam Lewis in 1983 and Brady Colt in 1985. In March of 1989, David returned to San Angelo where he continued as a real estate appraiser and taught continuing educational courses on the subject at South Plains College, Plainview; Texas Tech, Lubbock; and Angelo State University, San Angelo. In 1992, he married Kaye Ellis Neel and in 2001, he went to work for the Tom Green County Appraisal District. An avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer, David spent many happy hours outdoors with his boys, his stepdaughters and his friends. With his best friend Tommy Corbell, David was known to root for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and to entertain the crowd at Outback Steakhouse. He is survived by his wife, Kaye Ellis Johanson of San Angelo, mother Georgia Leonard of San Angelo, son Adam Johanson of San Antonio, son Brady Johanson of San Marcos, brother Peter Johanson of Bedford, stepdaughter Audrey Neel of San Angelo, stepdaughter Bonnie Neel of Austin, grandson Riley Neel-Hernandez of San Angelo, niece Truby Miller of Van Alstyne, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Services will be held 6 pm, Friday, Oct. 17 at Robert Massie Funeral Home in San Angelo with gravesite service the following morning in Goldthwaite. Pallbearers will be Tommy Corbell, Shaw Wofford, Rocky Spoonts, Bob Elliot, Mike Anderson, and Tommy Cantrell. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in David's name to Texas Tech Foundation, Inc, Box 41081, Lubbock, TX 79409 and West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 3001 S. Jackson St, San Angelo, TX 76904.
