David "Dave" Allen Shores, age 74 of San Angelo, passed away Monday, February 5, 2024, at Shannon Medical Center.
Memorial Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Dave was born September 27, 1949 in Richmond, Indiana to Moses and Elva (Lantz) Shores. He had five older siblings, Sara Ruby, who died in infancy, Evelyn, Jack, Gene, and Phylis. By the time Dave was born his siblings were grown and even had children of their own. He grew up with his nieces and nephews.
He grew up on the family farm in Richmond and enjoyed playing baseball as a boy. His father was a policeman and when he retired moved the family to St. Petersburg, Florida. After a couple years there they relocated to Crystal River. There he graduated from Crystal River High School. Dave enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968 and served for several years. Upon discharge he worked in the grocery business in Florida. Afterwards would begin a lifelong career in truck driving. He would also live in Texas, Wyoming, and Colorado. He hauled just about anything and everything, everywhere. Later in life he would purchase his own 18-wheeler and become owner operator. His CB radio handle was The Texas Ghost! He made lifelong friends out there on the road and even met a couple wives. When the truck got to be too much for him, he would go on to drive pilot cars for oversized loads. He fully retired several years ago.
David married several times and raised many children, almost all boys, several of which were still a big part of his life and still called him dad. He sure did love kids! On June 27,1980 He married Paula, and in 1982 they would have his only biological child, a daughter, Kara whom he affectionately called squirrel. Paula brought into the marriage two boys, Chris and Caleb. Both stayed close to Dave even after the marriage ended in the early 1990's. Paula and David even reconnected and became close friends and spoke often the last few years. To know Dave was to love him. He had a contagious personality.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings.
Survivors include his only daughter, Kara Hubbard and husband Scott and children Liam and Charlotte of Norman, Oklahoma; "sons", Christopher McDaniel and wife Theresa of Morton, Caleb McDaniel and wife Leslie and son Cameron of San Angelo, Kelsey Holland and wife Bethany and children Brantley and Kynlee of Paris, Harley Martin currently deployed with the United Stated Marine Corps and James Martin of Paris; a half-brother, Tom Clark of Reno, Nevada; and countless nieces and nephews and cousins and a host of friends.
The family would like to especially thank Shannon Medical Center and the doctors, nurses, medical and support staff who cared for David. He was very well taken care of.
