Dixie LaVerne Ritter, 85, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018 at a local nursing home. Dixie graduated from Water Valley High School and Mary Hardin Baylor University. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. Dixie worked as a missionary in Oklahoma for the Baptist Church, spending one summer in Panama. She moved back to Texas and worked for Dept. of Human Services here in San Angelo, retiring in 1996. Dixie was a kind and caring person. She had a strong faith in God and was a friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents; Louis Frank and Mattie Mae Ritter. Dixie is survived by her cousins; Barbara Bickerstaff of Mena, AR and Danny Glen of San Angelo. Other local relatives are Stanley and Carol Brokaw, who was her caregiver for the last four years; Larry Brokaw and wife, Jerry; Julia Brokaw Britton and husband John; Robin Brokaw and wife Emma all of San Angelo. She also leaves very special friends; Mr. & Mrs. Garland Sam, Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Sam; lifelong friend Ms. Pat Beck. The family wishes to thank them for all their love and support they gave Dixie. The family wishes to thank Regency House for care given during her last two years, along with a special thank you to Kindred Hospice, who made her final days comfortable. Any memorials for Dixie should go to Kindred Hospice, San Angelo Animal Shelter or Concho Valley Paws, per Dixie's request. She loved little dogs and cats; always giving them good homes. Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Grape Creek Cemetery with Chaplain Domingo Lopez of Kindred Hospice, officiating, under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
