DIXON AUGUSTUS "DICK" HARTGROVE Dixon Augustus "Dick" Hartgrove, 79, of San Angelo passed away on Thursday, March 08, 2012 at Ballinger Memorial Hospital. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the First Christian Church with Reverend Ben Hubert officiating. A private burial was held. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Dick was born on June 1, 1932 in San Angelo to Wilson C. and Dixie Hartgrove. He grew up on Duck Creek Ranch "The Family Ranch" in Concho County. He graduated from Paint Rock High School in 1949 and then graduated from Sul Ross State College in 1957 with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Dick served two years in the U.S. Army. Dick married Jackie Phillips on September 25, 1954 in Borger, TX. He worked for the J. M. Huber Oil Corp from 1958 to 1967 and lived in many places throughout the U.S. In 1972, he returned home to manage the family ranches for his father, Wilson and uncle, Scott Hartgrove until his retirement in 1992. He spent many hours teaching his grandchildren to fish, hunt and to enjoy the great outdoors on the family ranch. He was an avid story teller and enjoyed sharing stories and adventures of his life with others. The greatest joy of his life was watching his grandchildren as they grew and sharing in their accomplishments. Dick spent the last four years caring for the love of his life, Jackie. His dry sense of humor and wit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jackie of San Angelo; daughters, Pamela Kirkland and husband, James of Corpus Christi; Becky Ellis and husband, David of Eden; Ginger Hartgrove of Keller; Jill Duncan and husband, Jeff of Brackettville; sisters, June Dankworth of Paint Rock; Deborah Hofmann of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Kristi Chapman and husband, Blake of Portland, TX, Zack Kirkland of Corpus Christi, Kristi Ogle and husband, Stace of San Angelo, Garrett Ellis and fiancée Ali Tounget of Eola, Macey Ellis of Eden, Lauren Duncan of Brackettville, Blake Duncan of Brackettville, great-grandchildren; Kiersten and Kannon Ogle of San Angelo and Rilynn Ellis of Eola.
