Dolores was a courageous and loving woman and would happily open her home to those most in need, helping to raise some of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was known for making the best tamales in San Angelo, and was proud her clientele included lawyers, police officers and military personnel here in San Angelo to people traveling from Dallas and Kansas.

Mom was always a hard worker. She worked her entire life up until she was 80 years of age. Her jobs included the San Angelo City Bus Center, Levi's Strauss, and Concepts of Care. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, sewing, cooking for her family especially at holidays. She always had an open seat at her table.

Born November 20, 1936, she was the second oldest child and eldest daughter of Preciliano and Leonor Navarro. She was born in San Angelo, TX and resided here her entire life. She was preceded in death by her siblings Miguel Navarro, Catarina N. Ortiz, Alvina N. Melendez, Elvira N. Garcia, Alicia N. Calderon, Carmen N. Perez and Ignacia N. Arteaga. She was also lovingly greeted in heaven by her oldest son, Joe Adam Torres, and beloved grandson, Vincent Montemayor Ramirez.

She was the wife of the late Francisco M. Veliz and is survived by four daughters, Sandra Brock and husband Charlie, Delia Navarro of Louisiana, Alma Montemayor Ramirez and husband Danny, and Elena Veliz Rincon and husband Gabriel of Georgia; a son, Raymond N. Torres and wife Diana; and a grandson who she raised, Johnny M. Chappa Jr. of Garland; two brothers, Preciliano Navarro, Jr. and Juan Navarro; she was blessed with an abundance of grandchildren and from there, her family tree grew to include great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. All of whom she loved dearly.

All those who were blessed to have known Dolores would tell you she was a strong-willed woman, a special gift from heaven. She wanted to recognize the grandchildren closest to her, nieces and nephew that she helped raise or opened her home to: Lydia Navarro, Ruben Navarro, Frank & Sandra Baca, Janie Navarro Trejo, Betty Navarro Pena of Abilene, Nellie Armstead of San Antonio and Art Arteaga.

Pallbearers are her First-Generation grandsons Johnny M. Chappa, Jr., Ruben Navarro, Frank Baca, Raymond L. Torres, Nicholas M. Rincon and nephew, Art Arteaga.

Mom had such a soft heart for children in need. It was her desire that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. To Donate to St. Jude Children's Hospital, go to www.stjude.org.
