Doris Ewald Lock was born on September 29, 1920 in Rowena, TX in the Ewald family home at Herman & Ewald streets. She was the 6th of 7 children born to Pete & Albia Ewald. Doris passed away July 7, 2013 in San Angelo. Doris graduated from San Angelo High School in 1936 and attended Tarleton State University where she met her future husband, Oscar Lock. They married June 7, 1941. Oscar preceded her in death in 2012. Her first married years were spent moving at the Army's direction, where at each location Doris got a job on the base. Oscar was sent to radar school at SMU where they spent a peaceful time during WWII. After he was sent to Europe, Doris spent the rest of the war years with her parents and sisters, who were also waiting for husbands to return home, at the Ewald home. At this time she worked at Cox Rushing. After the war, Doris & Oscar spent many years in the home her Dad had built for them on the Ewald estate. There were also two other houses for sisters and their families. Doris was always close by her family. At this time they started their first business "Radio Lab" utilizing Oscar's Army electronic skills and Doris' bookkeeping. As the years passed it changed to "TVRadio Lab." Like most women of this generation, Doris' role was mainly being her husbands' helpmate and homemaker. Their second business venture was Covington and Lock's Sporting Goods and they eventually owned and operated Lock's Sporting Goods. Doris was not only the bookkeeper at these businesses, but was always the welcoming, smiling friendly face that customers enjoyed visiting with. Through the years Doris always met every new opportunity and duty with total effort, dedication, and enthusiasm, whether social, business, or travel. Her favorite memory was their treacherous road trip and 2 month visit to Alaska in 1959. Her favorite hobby among many during her life was creating beautiful petit point needlepoint work which family members treasure. Doris was known as the "Best Cook" as family and friends can attest. She kept up the effort in her later life and Oscar swore it was what afforded him a long life. Doris and Oscar were members of Saint Mark Presbyterian Church. Doris was predeceased by her parents, husband, brothers Pete, Arnold, and Vernon Ewald, sisters Juanita Ashley, Thelma Ewald, and Louise Grote, also nephew Stuart Ewald. Doris is survived by sisters-in-law Mary Lee Butts and Diane Lock. She is survived by numerous nephews and nieces, and grand nephews and nieces, and great grand nephews and nieces.
