Coach Click was born December 27, 1931 in the Duck Creek community near Paint Rock, Texas, to George Henry and May (Williams) Click. Coach Click graduated from Paint Rock High School in 1949 and attended Howard Payne University, where he was a Golden Gloves contender. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and served overseas in French Morocco, Okinawa Japan, and Phu Cat Vietnam. While stationed state-side in Altus, Oklahoma, he met the love of his life Mattie D. D'Spain. They married in California in 1954. Coach Click served as a military K-9 policeman and a Drill Instructor during his Air Force career. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his service during the Vietnam War and retired after 21 years of service as a Master Sergeant. After he retired from the Air Force in 1971, he returned to his hometown of Paint Rock, Texas. Once there, Coach Click enrolled at Angelo State University and received a Bachelor's degree in Education. Coach Click coached many sports at Paint Rock, but his passion was for 6-Man Football. In the 1980's, the Texas Football magazine dubbed him the "statistically winningest" coach in Texas 6-Man Football. He also coached tennis, golf, and track, as well as any other sport a student expressed a dedicated desire to pursue. In 2002, Coach Click moved to Rio Concho Manor. He continued to maintain his enthusiasm for small town Texas football, often making Friday night games in Ballinger, Paint Rock, Christoval, and other local towns to follow the hometown teams. Click was a 32 degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Elks Lodge. He attended Chadbourne Street Church of Christ in San Angelo, Texas. Honorary pallbearers will be his seven grandchildren.
