Edith Hutcheson Downs, 93, passed from this life on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at The Rosemont Assisted Living Facility in Humble, Texas, following a short illness. Edith was born in Collin County, Texas on May 14, 1919 and resided in San Angelo from 1948 to 2011, and in Humble until her death. Funeral services will be at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel, with visitation on Thursday, January 24 at 3:00 p.m. until services at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Anthony Garcia, officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery near Anna, Texas on Friday January 25, at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home Edith graduated from Crowell High School in 1937 and received a B.S. degree in education and business administration in 1940 from Sul Ross State University, Alpine, Texas. She taught school in Fort Davis, and worked for Soil Conversation Service in Marfa and Brady, Texas. She worked 32 years as an accountant and deputy accounting officer at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, retiring in 1980. She was an active member of the Theta Alpha Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha for over 60 years and was a member of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of San Angelo, and Vota Vita Sunday School class. She is survived by cousins, Mark Davis and wife Bonita of Humble, their sons Stephen and Douglas Davis; Brian Davis and wife Lynn of Austin; James Braswell and wife Becky of Colleyville; Ruth Kever of Sherman; Louise Hutcheson of McKinney; Tim Hutcheson and wife Sandy of Dallas, and seven other second cousins. Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.
