EDITH WINTERROWD SMTIH

Edith Winterrowd Smith went to be with her Lord on April 30, 2007 at Christopher House Hospice in Austin, Texas. Family visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the Robert Massie Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Pecos Cemetery in Pecos, Texas. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Mom was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had a servant's heart and that, was demonstrated by her actions and works. Mom loved her church in Pecos, Texas and was always willing to serve. The Junior Department at First Baptist Church in Pecos was one of Mom's first loves, after her family. She was also known throughout town as the "Cookie Lady", and would say, "I'm just spreading a little joy" with her cookie deliveries. She was also a faithful volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Mom and a special friend would visit elderly people unable to come to church. Mom would check their basic needs and her friend, a nurse, would check their health needs. Mom and her special friend also delivered Bibles to students graduating from the 8th grade and to prison inmates. Mom began her professional career late in life after her children were grown. She worked at Sears and later worked for the City of Pecos in the Water Department. Mom was awarded the Key to the City of Pecos in recognition for her years of service to the community. She was also given an award by the Business and Professional Women's society for Business Woman of the month. Her comment to newspaper was, "I have been blessed and try to do a good deed daily". Mom met Bill Smith, and were married in June of 1978 in Odessa, Texas. They took several wonderful trips throughout the United States during their marriage. In 2000, they moved to San Angelo to be nearer family and medical facilities. In 2006, Mom and Bill relocated to Austin in order to be in the same nursing facility that would meet their individual needs. Mom will be greatly missed by her husband, Bill who dedicated his life to Mom's comfort and care. She will also be missed by her family who have the assurance she is in the place God has prepared for her and she will have many stars in her crown. Mom expected nothing in return for the love she so generously gave to others. Her legacy was simply "Love and service to God". She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ross Earl Winterrowd.
