Edward M. "Lalo" Soto, 73, of Big Lake entered Heaven on Monday, March 25, 2024 surrounded by his family and friends.
Viewing will be from 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with the rosary at 6:00 PM. Mass will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at St. Margaret of Cortana Catholic Church in Big Lake with Rev. Balachandra Nagapogu, Rev. Hilary Ihedioha, and Rev. Prem Thumma, officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Rest Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Edward M. "Lalo" Soto was born on June 27, 1950 to Alfredo S. Soto and Victoria M. Soto in New Deal in Lubbock County. He grew up in the Lubbock area before moving to Big Lake and meeting the love of his life, Rosa Martinez. They were married for 54 years at the time of his death.
At a young age, he did various jobs around town. Lalo worked for Geophysical Service Inc. as a head lineman and a truck driver for a number of years and later worked for Globe Well Service until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Reagan County Owls, and the Dallas Cowboys.
Lalo was a faithful member of St Margaret of Cortana Catholic Church. He was dearly loved by his parish family. His duties as a servant of the Lord was as a sacristan to prepare the vessels for the masses. He would arrive everyday at 7:30 AM for 8:30 AM mass and then would prepare for the weekend services. Bible study was his favorite thing to do on Wednesdays. He loved to sing "Juntos Como hermanos". He will be sadly missed by his church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victoria and Alfredo Soto, Sr.; sister, Virginia; and brothers, Fidel, Alfredo, Jr., and Abel.
Lalo is survived by his wife, Rosa of Big Lake; a daughter, Veronica Talamantez and husband Albert of Ozona; a son, Edward Soto, Jr and wife Trisha of Big Lake; two brothers, Lupe Soto and wife Rosa of Amarillo and Gilbert Soto and wife Patty of Elk City, Oklahoma; two sisters, Elida Harell and Esperanza Soto both of Lubbock; five grandchildren, Eric Talamantez and wife Alex, Jacob Talamantez, Zachary Talamantez all of Ozona, Vanessa Braly and husband Jamie of San Angelo, Seth Soto of Big Lake, and Blayk Mitchell of Ozona; and a great granddaughter, Ariella Braly of San Angelo.
