Elizabeth Rose (Cypert) Swanke, 94, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Family visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, TX with Pastor Mike Berry officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Elizabeth was born on April 23, 1919 in Hawley, TX to O. D. and Winnie Rebecca (Sandlin) Cypert. She graduated from Hawley High School in 1935. Elizabeth married George Friedrich Swanke in January of 1941 in San Angelo and worked beside him as a military wife for over 23 yrs. She stayed a member of Goodfellow AFB OWC for many years. Elizabeth worked at Goodfellow AFB in the commissary and other commissaries where they were stationed. She was honored with a National Citation from the American Business Women as the businesswoman of the year in 1967. Elizabeth was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. In her retirement she loved her family, crocheting, fishing, bridge and cooking for others. Her family will always remember her as a happy, caring, loving person, who believed in kindness to others. Preceding her in death was her husband George and son Mike, her parents, brothers Pinky, O. D. (Red), Pat; sisters Pearl Fritts, Aelo Mae Monzingo Fritts; brother -in-law Rex; sisters-in-law Mildred Cypert Starbuck and Eleanor Cypert. She is survived by her daughters Georgia Ann Stansbury and husband, Keith of Ballinger; Jerry Beth Brokaw and husband, Larry of San Angelo; sisters-in-law Bettie Cypert of Merkel; Jewel Cypert of San Angelo; Mary Ann Earles of Washington; Ruth Scudder of Colorado; brother in law; Harold Swanke and wife, Joan; grandsons Hunter Stansbury and wife, Bernadette, Jim Stansbury, Rex Stansbury, Kent Brokaw and wife, Kristi; Shannon Stansbury and wife, Sandy, granddaughter Heather Bethancourt and husband, Matt; great-grandchildren Jetti, Taylor, Kerri, Kelci, K'Dee, Courtney, Ashley, Sydney, Hannah, Evan and Ryan; one great-great-grandson Bradley and Brokaw children; Stanley, Julia and Robin and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sagecrest for all the kindness and care they have shown to our Mom.
