Matriarch of the family, grandmother, mother, daughter, and aunt. Elodia Fuantoz, 100, love and support for her family didn't come to an end with her death. Elodia Passed away in her sleep on Sunday, February 25, 2024, surrounded by family who will continue to honor her legacy of compassion and kindness by living their lives to the fullest.
Elodia was born December 26, 1923 in Ozona the second child of 7. Elodia was raised during the "Roaring"20's, lived through the great depression (1929-1939), World War II (1939-1945), Korean War, Civil Rights movements, Vietnam War and many other significant historical events throughout US History.
Elodia would work on farms picking cotton and tomatoes alongside her parents and siblings in her younger years. She would also work as a cleaning lady and restaurant owner until she landed a job at Angelo State University as a janitor. She would work at ASU for over 30 years, until her retirement in the late 1990's. She married Ascension Fuantoz, they had four daughters: Maria Elena, Elodia, Patricia and Belia. Elodia was a loving and generous soul. Generous almost to a fault. Caring and devout Catholic. She loved her entire family with a dedication not easily matched these days. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, a fresh cup of coffee sitting around the table eating pan dulce, family gatherings, working in the yard, feeding the birds, she was a voracious reader.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert Herrera and wife Elva, and Alfredo R. Herrera and wife Marisela; a sister-in-law, Angela Herrera; son-in-laws, Joe Padilla and Rodrigo Fraire; four grandsons, Alberto R. Fraire, Michael Moore, Henry Maberry, and Greg Padilla; three granddaughters, Angela Rangel and husband John, Kristy Guerra and husband Tony, and Denise Moore; 15 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren. Elodia was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Consuelo Herrera; her husband, Ascension Fuantoz; four daughters, Maria Elena Moore, Elodia Padilla, Patricia Maberry, and Belia Clayton (Fraire); two sisters, Belia Tijerina Skow, and Nestora Luna, two brothers Heraclio Herrera and Antonio Herrera; and a grandson, Jon Fraire.
Rosary will be prayed 6:00 PM Friday, March 8, 2024, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Memorial Mass will be 10:00 AM Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Cathederal of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Droll, pastor, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
