On Sunday morning, July 25, 2021, Ester Dykes Behrend Murdock, 94, of San Angelo, TX joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in her forever mansion with her forever family of God.
The daughter of J.I. and Ernestine Dykes, she was born on a beautiful day on May 22, 1927 in San Angelo, where she lived most of her life.
She graduated from San Angelo High School where she played tennis, wrote for the school newspaper and was a member of the National Honor Society. Then she went on to attend San Angelo College for a year before marrying and starting a family.
Ester grew up as a member of First Presbyterian Church and at one time, she worked there as the pastor's secretary. She also worked at San Angelo National Bank as the president's secretary for many years. As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 42 years, Ester was very active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Stephen Ministry, served as president of the Ladies Circle, and bowled on the church league team. Then in 2003, Ester became a member and active participant of The Heights Baptist Church when she married Bill. They were blessed to contribute the San Angelo Sheep Statue at the entrance of the church parking lot, praying that it would be a witness and glorify God.
Along with her faith, her home and her family traditions were very important to Ester, and she loved passing them on to us. She was the cornerstone of our family and was always willing to give help and support where and when needed. Along with caring for her adopted animals, she enjoyed gardening, baking brownies to give away, perusing the antique stores and traveling the world with Bill.
Ester was preceded in death by husbands, Darwin Lapham and Eric Behrend; sisters, Birdie Stevenson and Laura O'Neal; granddaughter, Melissa Russell; and son-in-law, Roy Agent.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Murdock of San Angelo; children, Linda Lapham Agent of Bronte; Doug Lapham (Hilaire) of Overland Park, Kansas; David Behrend (Antonia) of San Angelo; Mark Behrend of Redwood City, California; Bill Murdock, Jr (Cindy) of South Dakota; and Dwight Murdock (Pam) of Weatherford; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Donations may be made to Concho Valley PAWS in San Angelo.
