Felix De La Rosa

Felix De La Rosa, known as "Cat" "Gato" or "PoPo Cat", of San Angelo was a devoted family man and talented drummer. He passed away on August 22, 2024, at the age of 82.

Born on October 19, 1941, to Jesus and Luz De La Rosa, Felix grew up with a deep sense of faith and a love for music that would shape his entire life. As a young boy, he contributed to the construction of the San Jose Mission under the direction of Father Fidelis. His dedication to his faith never wavered, and he remained a devout member of the Catholic church throughout his life.

Felix's true passion was playing the drums. He picked up his first set of drumsticks in elementary and was playing gigs by the age of 13. He was an extraordinary self-taught drummer. He played with a diverse set of bands, including country, rock, Mexican, honky tonks, big bands, and various other genes. He played in many venues including garages, backyards, river parades, dixie clubs, dive bars, and various locations.

As he got older, he remained connected to his roots & faith. On Saturday and Sunday, you would find him lugging his drum bag loaded with cymbals, drum sticks & chimes to church. Throughout the years he played for St. Mary's, St. Margaret's & Sacred Heart church choir.

His music became a source of inspiration and comfort to many. He also passed down his legacy to many children by providing drum lessons.

He was blessed with two daughters, Felicia De La Rosa and Serena De La Rosa and partner Nicholaus Hermosillo; two granddaughters, Dezi Delarosa and partner Al Rodriguez and TahLia Hermosillo; one great-granddaughter, RaeAnn Rodriguez; his brother, Joe De La Rosa and wife Linda; and his sisters, Connie Aldrete and Patsy Medina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jesus Jr., Beto, Sam, Juan, and Willie De La Rosa, and sisters Minnie and Rosa De La Rosa.

The family would like to thank Aracelli (Nurse), Ashley & Alice (CNA'S) with Concho Hearts Hospice. Your patience, empathy and gentleness is greatly appreciated.

PoPo Cat will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will never be forgotten. He will live forever in the hearts of everyone touched by his music.
