Florence Harris Riley Howard was born on August 27, 1923 in Aurelius, New York, the seventh child of Floyd and Mary Elizabeth Deats Harris. Following graduation from Skaneateles High School, Florence became an X-ray technician and was employed by Cortland Memorial Hospital in Cortland, New York. In 1946 she married Daniel Riley, MD and together they moved to San Angelo, Texas where Dr. Riley became health commissioner. Following his death, Florence moved to Kerrville Texas to accept a position ad director of volunteers for a local hospital. She married Robert G. Howard in 1971. The couple resided in Kerrville until his death in 2001. Florence then re-settled in San Angelo which she considered her home. IN addition to her husbands, Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Harris and Mary Elizabeth Eats Harris; by her sisters Helm (Mrs. Hurlon Mappes), Evelyn (Mrs. Robert Crowfoot), and Ruth (Mrs. John Kovar); and brothers George, Frank and Paul. Florence is survived by brother-in-law Major James Showered of Abilene, TX; niece Ann Kovar Brunson; nephews Robert Mappes, Dale Harris and Gordon Mappes and several grand nieces and nephews.
