Frieda Gerlach Stelling age 92 of San Angelo died July 2, 2020, at Talley House at Sagecrest in San Angelo.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 10:30 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church. The Paul Zwarich, will officiate. Cremation arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home.
She was born Frieda Henrietta Gerlach, on August 4, 1927, in Ashland, Ohio to Henry B and Augusta Walter Gerlach. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1945. Upon graduation, she went to Washington, D.C. to work for the Public Health Service of the U.S. Government. She also worked for the Navy Department and later went to the District of Columbia National Guard as secretary to the Adjutant General. One year later she became the secretary to the Commanding General and held that position for 28 years.
After retirement in 1984, she came to San Angelo to work for her brother, Werner Gerlach and his wife Celia at Gerlach Graphic Consultations, until the business was sold in 1987. Frieda had volunteered in the gift shop at San Angelo Community Hospital for a number of years, she was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church where she served as Council President, Newsletter Editor Worship Chairman and past president of Calvary’s 49+ Senior Group. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. In 1989, she married her longtime friend and the love of her life, Harry E. Stelling.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend, Harry; her parents; three brothers; a sister; and a sister-in-law.
Frieda is survived by her beloved niece and caregiver, Joyce G. O’Connell of San Angelo; nieces, Lyn Miller of Cleveland, Ohio, Shaun Pomiecko and her family of Bainbridge, Ohio, Nancy Gerlach of Cleveland, Ohio; and a nephew, Henry Gerlach of Cleveland, Ohio; great-nephews, Brian O’Connell and wife Nuray, Matthew O’Connell and wife Brittany; a great-niece Amanda Bogard and husband Ross and their families; a step-son Donald Stelling of Reno, Nevada; a step- daughter, Linda Anderson of Cumberland, MD; and numerous step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
