Gladys Goren Becker, 100 of San Angelo, Texas and Tampa, Florida passed away on May 22, 2011. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred Yale Becker in in 1973. She is survived by her devoted son Robert Becker and his wife JoAnn of Tampa. Gladys will be deeply missed by her loving granddaughter Leslie and her husband Steven Peskind of Plano, Texas and grandson Jeff and wife Shelley of Dallas and great-grandchildren Alyssa and Shannon Peskind and Ryan and Alec Becker. They will miss all of the special times they shared with their "NANA" The family had an amazing opportunity to participate in her 100th birthday celebration in Tampa this past April with letters and memories that captured her unbelievable zest for life. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Gladys's life was filled with wonderful memories of family and friends. She lived a healthy, industrious life, filling it with a myriad of activities, such as family visits and vacations and multiple trips to exotic places around the world with good friends. Gladys was a volunteer as a Pink Lady at San Angelo Community Hospital for many years. She was a member of the "Leading Ladies" in San Angelo where she enjoyed bridge, luncheons and trips with friends . A lifelong member of Congregation Beth Israel in San Angelo, Gladys was the "chief egg scrambler" for Yom Kippur Break-fasts every year. Her passion was growing flowers and plants at her San Angelo home. Her soft words of encouragement and a little west Texas rainwater made everything turn green. She was an institution at Nathans Jewelers in San Angelo where she worked for 25 years. Gladys loved her family deeply and saved every picture, letter and playbill that came to her. Interment will take place at Lawn haven Memorial Garden in San Angelo,with grave side services there on Tues. May 24 at 11:00 am. The family will gather at the F.L. Stephens home, 5733 Ben Fickle Rd from 3-5 for visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Glady's memory to West Texas Boys Ranch, Mertzon, Texas or to Congregation Rodeph Sholom . 2713 Bayshore Blvd. Tampa, Florida 33629.
