Grady Madison Capps, 92, of San Angelo, passed away peacefully at his home on April 28, 2014. He was born in Bedias, Texas on May 26, 1921 to Claude Madison Capps and Minnie Mae Miller Capps. Grady moved to Veribest when he was seventeen and graduated from Miles High School. He joined the Navy in January 1942, and served aboard the U.S.S. Wingfield DE194, during World War Il. He also served aboard the U.S.S. Dixie AD14 during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Chief Metalsmith and was honorably discharged in 1952. After being discharged from the Navy, he returned to San Angelo where he was employed by Mustang Chevrolet and later Jim Bass Ford as body shop manager. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, J.C. Capps and Ira Capps, one sister, Twylah Sims and a son, David. Grady was a longtime member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church and is survived by his wife of fifty years, Joanne Capps, his son, Kenneth Capps and wife Karen of Kaufman, daughter, Connie Lou Estes of Burleson; nieces, Linda Kovac and Gracie Dowdy; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Special friends surviving Mr. Capps are Joe and Lou Fields, Don and Judy Burney, Mark and Jackie Stevenson and the Bass Bunch. Honorary pallbearer will be Grady's dear friend, Joe Fields, whom he loved as a son and was his constant caregiver the last years of his life. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
