Gregory Paul Shannon Gregory Paul Shannon, 54, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in San Angelo on October 17, 2016. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on October 6, 1962, to Jacqueline Lois Ferry Shannon and the late Charley Harriss Shannon. As a child he lived in San Antonio, Edna, and Austin, before the family moved to San Angelo in 1968. A 1981 graduate of Central High School, Greg attended Angelo State University and Sul Ross State University, where he studied Geology. Throughout his life, he had a love of the outdoors, rock and fossil collecting, and anything to do with the study or discussion of geological formations. Greg courageously survived the challenges of serious mental illness for the last three decades of his life. He was always supportive and engaged in his family's advocacy efforts to try to better the lives of persons with mental illness. He enjoyed working in the Commissary at Goodfellow Air Force Base, and was a devoted member of the Discipleship Class at St. Luke United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed traveling, and in recent years was a frequent companion and fellow traveler to many exotic locations with his mother. He is survived by his mother, Jacqueline Shannon, of San Angelo, his brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Jeannine Shannon of Lubbock, and his niece, Julia Shannon, a graduate student in Bloomington, Indiana. He is also survived by extended family members in Austin, Dallas, Arizona, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, and Virginia. He was pre-deceased by his father, Charley H. Shannon, and both sets of grandparents. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church in San Angelo. An opportunity for visitation will be Thursday, October 20, 2016, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at Robert Massie Funeral Home in San Angelo.
