Guadalupe Martinez Mendez, 82, of San Angelo passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday July 3, 2011 in an area nursing home. Rosary was conducted by Rev. Francis Njoku of Brownwood at 7:00 pm Tuesday July 5, 2011 at the Robert Massie Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Wednesday July 6, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Catholic Church with Msgr. Maurice J. Voity, with Rev. Santiago Udayar and Rev. Rodney White concelebrating. Burial will follow at Miles Cemetery officiated by Rev. Santiago Udayar of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Odessa. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home. She was born November 25, 1928 in San Angelo, Texas to Francisco and Juanita Huizar Martinez. She married Daniel Mendez in Mertzon and they shared over 60 years together. During their years together, she was a wonderful wife and mother to their 10 children. Her two greatest joys in life were watching her kids grow up and play sports. She loved serving her Church as lector, choir member, Eucharistic minister, Cursillista since 1962, member of the Franciscan Order and enjoyed cooking for all church functions. Pallbearers will be grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant son Edmundo Mendez and her best friend, Olivia Acosta Survivors include her husband, Daniel Mendez of Miles; sons, Hector Mendez and wife, Rose of Odessa; Daniel Mendez, Jr. of Midland; David Mendez; Adrian Mendez and wife, Clara all of Austin; Fernando Mendez; Gabriel Mendez both of San Angelo; Ed Mendez and wife, Andrea; and Mitchell John Mendez and wife, Dianna all of Midland; daughters, Veronica Martinez; and Ernie Dotson and husband, Michael; brother, Jesse Martinez and a sister, Maria Chavez all of San Angelo, 37 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. The Mendez family wishes to thank the Bronte Health and Rehab Center and the Vista Care Hospice for the wonderful care and concern shown to Guadalupe and our family.
