Hubert "Bert" Garrett, II, 52, of San Angelo went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 26, 2007 at a local hospital. Bert attended Lincoln Elementary School, Centralia High School and graduated from Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois. Bert was an outstanding basketball player throughout all of his school years, garnering many awards. Bert was a joy to be around because he loved to enjoy himself whether it was playing basketball, partying or just "kickin" with his family and friends. Bert was the kind of person anyone would want as a friend, because if he was your friend you can believe he had your back all the way. Bert loved his wife, Jennipher, calling her sugar or honey when he was being extra sweet. Bert especially loved his sons, his namesake, Hubert Lee "Tink" Garrett II, Chase Eugene Garrett and Kendal Lamont Garrett. Bert Loved his family and when he got the chance to be around his mother, brothers, sister and the rest of his family you could see his face light up and hear his laughter ring out loud. Bert also loved his job at Chevron where he had been for 32 years. Bert was first employed with Chevron right after college in Centralia, Illinois and the transferred to San Angelo, TX almost 9 years ago. Bert is survived by his wife, Jennipher, of San Angelo, TX; his sons, Hubert Lee "Tink" Garrett III and his wife Bonnie, Chase Eugene Garrett and Kendal Lamont Garrett all of Centralia, IL; his mother, Joyce L. Garrett of Centalia, Illinois; Stepdaughter Wendy and husband, Sean Simmons of Seattle, WA, two brothers, William Lawson Garrett of Tampa, Florida, Ricky Lee Garrett and wife Cynthia, and sister Marion "Bunny" Garrett, both of Centralia, Illinois; his nephew, Danon C. Garrett, of Houston TX, who was raised like a brother with him; one aunt Helen Pilate of Chicago, Illinois; one uncle Flozell Bates of Centralia, Illinois; mother-in-law Joyce Parkes and sister-in-law Elemay Parkes of Birmingham, England and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends he leaves to celebrate his life. Bert really liked living in San Angelo because he said he had met so many great people here, including the people he worked with as well as many other super friends outside of work. Bert appeared so happy and satisfied with his life and one could just see that he was truly blessed. The Garrett Family, his co-workers and his friends walked this journey with him in life and now he's got the best companion of all, God, to walk the rest of the way with him. May your journey continue in peace. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Phil Webber officiating of Baptist Temple.
