Ima Janice Thompson, 75, of San Angelo was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, May 19, 2017 at her residence. She was born to Willie Deck and Brunette English in Pensacola, FL., on May 22, 1941. She attended Lytle High School and lived in DeVine, TX. After making San Angelo her home, she met and married the love of her life, Benny L. Thompson on July 22, 1977. She worked at Ethicon, the San Angelo State School and retired from GTE/Verizon in 1998. Jan was a faithful member New Light Baptist Church for 40 years. She served in many capacities and loved to be in the house of the Lord. She was filled with life, love, laughter and sunshine. Most people knew her as a sweet and funny lady. Her presence was warm and caring and she brought joy to all who were around her. Jan served her community by volunteering at Shannon Medical Center and a lifetime member of the NAACP. She was also member of the Busy Bee Sewing Club. Pallbearers will be Freddie Jones, Gile Scott, Aubrey Todd, Michael Evans, Kendall Blue, Jay Fuentes, Walter Lewis and Randall Blue. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Daniel Sain and Elmas Thompson Jr., and daughter, Dixie Thompson. Ima is survived by her husband, Benny L. Thompson of San Angelo, children; Charles Frazier of Waco, Tammye Mc David of Los Angeles, Heather Byrd of San Angelo, Jacqueline (Matthew) Perr of Madison AL., Jennifer Jackson of Tacoma, WA., Chris AufderHeide of San Angelo; grandchildren are Jana Hibbitts, Robert Hibbitts, Ebony Goodloe, Kayla Watson, Talin Frazier, Vanessa Frazier, Michael Evans, Lauryn Byrd, Joshua (Chloe) Perr, Jaiyleana Perr, Joyvonna Perr, Nathan Holmes, Victoria Jackson, Trey (Sarah) Jackson, Jenai Williams and Madison AufderHeide; ten great grandchildren; sisters; Kathy Sellers, Patti Hall, Eva Joyce Hammonds, Arzulia Fields, brothers; Earl Thompson and Larry Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews. Family visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 26, 2017 at New Light Baptist Church with Rev L. E. Pope, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
