James Elwood Arnold

James Elwood Arnold, 84, of San Angelo passed away Monday, October 31, 2022.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Friday at McKenzieville Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Mr. Arnold was born July 4, 1938 in New Orleans, Louisiana to James and Ruby (De Otte) Arnold. He graduated from Dangerfield High School. James received a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University, a master's degree from the University of Chicago, and his PhD from Texas A&M University. He married Patricia Bussey on April 19, 1983 in Huntsville, Alabama. James was a professor of science at Texas A&M University before working at NASA. He was an Atmospheric Scientist at NASA working with the space shuttle program during launches. James retired in 2006. He was a member of AAVSO and regularly attended the Texas Star Party. He was always interested in learning something new. He enjoyed photography, camping and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Patricia; four children, Christopher James Arnold of Auburn, Alabama, Jason Anthony Arnold of Benton, Tennessee; Jennifer Cox of San Angelo, and Charles Webb of Huntsville, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Elly Arnold, Sam Arnold, John Thomas Arnold, Mary Meg Arnold, Leah Arnold, Kenny Cox, Katie Cox Burney, and Joshua Cox; and six great-grandchildren.
