JAMES ROBERT STEEN

James Robert Steen, age 49 of San Angelo passed away July 3, 2005 after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. James was born December 11, 1955 in Marfa, to Jim Bob and Katheryn Steen. He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Susan Steen of Kermit and his devoted mother, Katheryn Steen of Marfa, his oldest daughter, Jamie Katheryn Steen and her best friend, Bronc Fleming of Miles; son, Jim Bob Steen II of Alpine and his baby girl, Jessica Turner Steen of Kermit; a sister, Jettie Leigh Whitlock and husband, Lee of Bandera; niece, Randall Leigh Whitlock of Bandera; his grandmother, Flora Steen of Goldthwaite; aunt Jane Ann Johnson and husband, Thurman of Goldthwaite; three cousins, Mina Martin and husband, Gary of Burnet, Ruth Ann Bowland and husband, Kenny of Burnet, Della Mc Coy and husband, Randy of Goldthwaite; his mother-in-law Helen Turner of Water Valley; father-in-law Percy Turner and wife, Michelle of Galt, CA.; brother and sister-in-law Tim and Judy Turner and their daughters, Tara and husband, Wes Langerhans of San Angelo and Amanda Turner of Water Valley. James was preceded in death by his father Jim Bob Steen in 1980 and his grandfather, Robert Steen in 2002. James showed and exhibited Hereford steers, heifers and lambs from 1964-1974. He majored in Animal Science at Texas A & M 1974-1977. He was a member of the 1977 Livestock judging team and was also a member of the Saddle and Sirloin Club. James received his American Farmer Degree in 1974 and was president of the American Jr. Hereford Association in 1978-1979. James judged many major livestock shows, including Houston and Louisville. James was also the past president of the Texas Southdown breeders association and a member of the board of directors of the American Southdown Association. James was currently President of the National Rambouillet Association. James was an Agriculture Extension Agent in Presidio Co. following in his father's footsteps who was also a county agent in Presidio Co. James was a man of many talents. He was one of the best sheep fitters in the nation. He gave considerable time and attention to his family and animals. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family. There will be a visitation at the Robert Massie Funeral Home, July 5th from 6-8pm and a visitation at the First United Methodist Church in Marfa, July 6th from 12-2 pm. Funeral services will be at the First United Methodist Church in Marfa, July 6th at 2:00 PM. with Rev. Charles Koch, officiating, with burial to follow in the Marfa Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Burk Latimore, Tom Boyer, Walter Miller, Joanie Thompson, Franklin and Jane Gainer, Donnie Hoover, Harvey Slaton, Quate Allen, John Kearney, Bill Shaw, McMinn White and Mem Hall and John Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Hayes Mitchell, Bill Shurley, Dr. Charles Edwards, Tee Knox, James and Jim Dyer Kindly consider making a memorial in James memory to the American Rambouillet Sheep Breeders Association at 1610 South State Rd. 3261 Levelland, Texas 79336
