Jamey Ray Brooks, 65, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at Shannon Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Jamey was born on June 4, 1958, and raised in Covington, Louisiana as the youngest of six children. As a boy, he enjoyed playing in the woods and pretending that he was Robin Hood. He worked his way through college and earned a Bachelor's degree in history. As a young man, he dedicated his life to Christ and joined the mission field in Guatemala in 1984 where he met his future wife, Lynne Snyder. Jamey and Lynne married in 1986 in Southern California, settled down there, and began pastoring with the Foursquare Church. They welcomed daughter Katie (Rhodes) in 1987, daughter Emily (Hill) in 1989, daughter Beth (Mwano) in 1992, and son Jeremy in 1994.
Jamey was a lifelong pastor who loved singing folk and praise songs, learning about the Old West, visiting Yosemite National Park, lending a helping hand, and spending time with his family and friends. After nearly thirty years in Fillmore, California, in 2019, he and Lynne moved to San Angelo, Texas to be near their three grandchildren, Judah (age 9), Jubilee (age 7), and Tirzah (age 6). They also adored being with their fourth grandchild, Ocean (age 3) on the East Coast. In San Angelo, Jamey was proud to be a probation officer with a pastor's heart and assistant pastor at Parkside Community Foursquare Church. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his immediate family, on March 22, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie Brooks and Georgette Oncal Brooks; and a brother, Danny Brooks. In addition to his wife, and children, he is survived by sisters, Laurie Seneca, Sally Seneca, and Amy Gates; a brother, Davy Brooks; and sons-in-laws, Ben Rhodes, Nic Hill, and Vinny Mwano.
A memorial service will be held on 2:00 PM CDT Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Parkside Church, 3024 Freeland Ave, San Angelo, TX 76901. In lieu of flowers, chocolate will be gladly accepted. The service will be live streamed and can be accessed through the church YouTube channel available here under the "live" tab.
