Janie Martinez Desch

A special and beautiful soul passed from this life on September 11, 2013. Janie Torres Martinez-Desch was born in Snyder Texas on November 3, 1970 to Barbara (Matos) and George Torres. Growing up in Snyder, she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Pablo and Guadalupe Matos. She called them mom and dad. After graduating from Snyder High School in 1989, Janie moved to San Angelo, Texas. Within a couple of years, after a short marriage, Janie found herself a single mom raising two small children. She was a loving mother with excellent parenting skills. While raising her children well, she also worked for a living and put herself through college. Janie graduated from Angelo State University in 1999. She was then employed by San Angelo Independent School District as an elementary school teacher. She taught at Holliman, Rio Vista, and Bowie Elementary schools in San Angelo. She was looking forward to the start of another school year teaching second grade at Bowie Elementary, but illness kept her from returning to her classroom. Family visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2013 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Deacon Frank Aguirre officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Janie was preceded in death by her grandfather (dad), Pablo Matos; her father George Torres; her mother, Barbra Matos; and her uncle, Jessie Matos. Survivors include her grandmother (mom), Guadalupe Matos of Snyder; her husband of 21 years, John Desch; daughter Vanessa Hernandez and husband Joseph Hernandez; sons Nojan Desch, Mani Desch, and Jonathon P. Martinez; grandchildren Sean Desch and Layla Desch, all of San Angelo; sisters Michelle Rincones of Dallas, Jan Fuentez, Janet Fuentez, and Janice Fuentez, all of Snyder; and brother Chris Rincones of Garden City, Kansas. Pallbearers will be Nojan Desch, Mani Desch, Jonathon Martinez, Joey Sosa, Joseph Hernandez, and Michael Valdez. The things that mattered most to Janie were family and relationships with people. Loving and caring were the hallmarks of her personality. Love will last forever, but prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will all disappear. We know only a little, and even the gift of prophecy reveals little. But when the end comes, these special gifts will all disappear. There are three things that will endure-faith, hope, and love- and the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:4-13
