Jessie "Alex" Guevara, age 75, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on July 31, 2017 and entered the Lord's presence. Alex was born to Cornelio and Lilly Guevara on September 3, 1941, the only son and youngest of his siblings. Alex married his "sugar", Gloria Delgado, on September 3rd and the two devoted themselves to service to their family and friends for their entire marriage. Alex worked his entire life, believing and instilling in those around him that perseverance and commitment led to success. Alex began as a butcher, learning skills that he used his entire life as a business owner and salesman. His career made him a friend to all and a stranger to none. His family often remarked that a quick shopping trip could easily turn into an hour long affair, as he often ran into customers and friends and would spend time catching up. Alex and his wife devoted themselves to assisting many organizations over the years, teaching their children the value of service. Alex was a member of the Pan-American Golf Association for many years, volunteered at the polling stations, Meals for the Elderly, and with Holy Angels Catholic Church just to name a few. Alex was a devoted and loving father. Even after raising his son, David Alexander, he reentered fatherhood again, raising 6 grandchildren from birth, later adopting them. His compassion and commitment to his family may be his greatest legacy. Alex sought to teach his children something every chance he got, whether it was teaching them to garden, hitting up the golf course, repairing things around the house, solving math problems, debating the importance of Johnny Cash's greatest hits. Some of his best memories involved time spent with his family. Alex was a devoted Catholic and longtime member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. He raised his children in the faith; although relatively private, when warranted, his deeply held conviction and beliefs shone through strongly. Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Lilly and Cornelio Guevara, and an infant brother, Cornelio Guevara Jr. Alex is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Gloria, his son, David and grandsons Arric and Jonathan. Alex is also survived by his children, April Chauvette, Michael Guevara, Alexandra Guevara, Jeremy Guevara, Brianna Frasier, and Glorianna Robertson, their spouses and children as well as his sisters Bernice and husband Augustine Tristan of Houston and Guadalupe and husband Guadalupe Garza of San Angelo. Alex is also survived by numerous extended family including nieces, nephews and cousins. A rosary will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father Charles Greenwell, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Blanc, Dr. Steve Montoya and all the nursing staff for their commitment and compassion shown to Alex during the last several years.
