Jimmie Mae Gray, Mrs. Owen J. Gray, age 95, went to be with the Lord Sunday, August 8, 2010 in a local nursing home after declining health passing peacefully in her sleep. Affectionately known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as 'œMema', she is reunited with her husband Owen J. Gray, mother Carrie Ada McCarley; father, Thomas Jefferson McCarley; five sisters, Shellie Bagwell, Ann Tommie Singleton, Cecil (Bill) Johnson, Faye Cox, and Ruby Duvall; and granddaughter, Denise Gray Stone. She was born October 20, 1914 in Peacock, Stonewall County, Texas to Carrie Ada Brister and Thomas Jefferson McCarley, the youngest of six daughters. Jimmie, a seventy year member of First Baptist Church, loved her church and faithfully raised her children under the umbrella of the church. She married Owen Jackson Gray, Jr. on April 22, 1933 in Eldorado, Texas. Together they operated a blacksmith and welding shop in Sonora before moving to San Angelo where they established Gray Trailer Company on South Oaks Street. Their specialty was livestock trailers, which became well known nationwide. Later the business was relocated to Bell Street where it is today as West Texas Trailer Company. After her husband'™s passing in 1964, she continued working the family business. Our beautiful, feisty, little mother had an unequaled zest for life and a fierce unconditional love for her children and family. She was a woman of extraordinary grace and style. Always a gracious host, welcoming all to her home. Though she will dearly be missed, we rejoice in knowing that one day, thanks to our Lord, Jesus Christ, we will all be reunited. What a joyful day that will be! Survivors include her sons, Richard Ludlow Gray of Comanche, Texas and Owen Jackson Gray III of San Angelo; daughters, Freda Mae Connell and husband T. Duane of Spring, Texas; Reba O. Gray and Carrie Janette Aldridge both of San Angelo. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren. 'œShe has fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith.' See 2 Timothy 4:7-8, The Holy Bible. Visitation is from 8:00am to 8:00pm on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Robert Massie Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Graveside services will be at 10:30am Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mark Riggins of VisaCare officiating. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home.
