JoAnn Herring, 88, passed away Friday, March 26, 2021, at her home surrounded by family.
Public viewing will be from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends and family from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
JoAnn was born May 3, 1932, to Sid and Lorene Jones Chapman in Ballinger. She graduated from Ballinger High School in May of 1949. JoAnn married Zid Herring, Jr. on June 15, 1949 in Ballinger, and they shared 50 wonderful years together. He preceded her in deathon December 7, 1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of San Angelo.
JoAnn and Zid spent most of their married life ranching. They spent many years in Ft Stockton Texas where all their children completed their schooling. In the early 80's they moved to Maryneal, Texas to their section of the Herring family ranch. When they decided to retire, they moved to San Angelo. JoAnn loved to country western dance and spent many years involved in a line dancing group. She also had a passion for playing the card game Hand and Foot, and we all spent many hours playing.
She is survived by her three children, Vicki Gray, Randy Herring and wife Donna and Becky Herring all of San Angelo; four grandchildren, Randy Gray and wife Susan of Amarillo, Kyle Gray of Kermit and Heather Word of San Angelo, Lisa Herring of Ozona and Jessica Herring Bolding of San Angelo; Seven great grandchildren, Dustin Gray and wife Tyler and Ryder Gray all of Amarillo, Taylor DeHoyos, Mayce Bolding, Cooper Bolding, Haley Robledo all of San Angelo, and Baylee DeHoyos of Austin; two great-great grandchildren, Skylar Gray and Kelton Gray both of Amarillo; JoAnn is also survived by her brother, Glen Chapman and wife Kathryn of Bandera, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joy and Dalton Owens of Maryneal; and sister-in-law, Jean Herring of Maryneal; as well as many nieces and nephews. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister and brother-in-law, June, and Curtis Wiesepape; sisters-in-law, Billie Herring and Hettie Taylor; and brothers-in-law, E.S. "Snooky" Herring and Jack Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her special friend Ed Nalepka.
The family would like to thank JoAnn's caretakers, Dianne Bass, Andrea Orrosquieta, Juanita Medrano and the staff at Hospice of San Angelo for their tender care of our mom.
Honorary Pallbearers are her grandsons, great grandsons and a great-great grandson, Randy Gray, Kyle Gray, Dustin Gray, Ryder Gray and Kelton Gray and Cooper Bolding.
