JOHN MORRIS JONES

John Morris Jones, 81, of San Angelo, TX passed away, on Saturday, February 19, 2011 in San Angelo. Family visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM followed by Memorial service at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 26 at Unity Church of Christianity with the Rev. Janie Kelley officiating. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. John was born in Oakland, California to James Morris and Margaret Thomas Jones on March 12, 1929. He graduated from Oakland Technical High School. His undergraduate degree was conferred by University of California at Berkeley. He also earned three Masters Degrees from American College of Life Underwriters: CLU, ChFC, MSFS. He worked for 36 years as an independent life insurance agent and financial consultant serving much of West Texas from his office in San Angelo. He consistently earned membership in the Million Dollar Round Table, the Premier Association of Financial Professionals. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars in which he served as a pilot for the US Air Force. He retired as Lt. Colonel after 33+ years of service. John's passion was sailing. He also had a love of poetry, music, literature, bird-watching, cribbage, driving to California to visit family, camping and the great outdoors John is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by the children of his marriage to Ms. D.A. "Doodle" Dankworth: Ed Jones and wife Brenda of Houston; Bob Jones and wife Patti of San Antonio; Charles Jones and wife Beth of Cedar Park; Lori Barton and husband Pat of San Angelo; Janet Jones of Ft. Worth and Becky Benes and husband Lonnie of San Angelo. Sister: Margie and husband Charlie Griffith of Murphys, California, their three children; Sue, Mike and John and their families. John is also survived by eighteen grandchildren: Reese, James, Lindsey, John, Joseph, Erin, Katie, Maggie, Grace, David, Christopher, Daniel, Tyler, Abby, Ashley, Sean, Hannah, and Mary-Frances, and three Great-Grandchildren with one on the way. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Unity Church Education Trust Fund, which he founded; Concho Valley Home for Girls; Meals for the Elderly or the Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts of America. The family of John Jones wishes to extend our sincere thanks to their Mom and to Hank Pierson, Dr. John Harvey, Dr. Fazlur Rahman, Dr. Monty and Pat Wright, Ms. Laura Jones, friends of Unity Church, Wilson Tire Co., Jennifer Shawker, Gene Hall, and the staff at Myrtlewood Estates especially Becky, Angela and Jewel.
