John W. Nettleton, Jr., 81, of Christoval went to be with the Lord on Thursday October 11, 2012 at a local care center. Family Visitation will be from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday October 14, 2012 at the Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 Monday October 15, 2012 at the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church with Rev. Phillip Steinbach officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home. John was born November 28, 1930 in San Angelo to John William and Marguerite (Hardin) Nettleton Sr. He was an active member of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church of San Angelo and Green Mountain United Methodist Church of Lakewood, CO. He always enjoyed singing in the choirs and was active in many other groups thru the church. He worked as a Structural Stress Engineer for Lockheed Martin in Colorado for 40 years, actively participating in the Apollo, Skylab and Space Shuttle programs. John was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to ski, fish, hunt, and golf. He was never known to sit still and had to be working on a project in one form or another at all times. He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, JoAnn Bristow. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Nettleton of Christoval; two sons Tab Nettleton and wife Pam of Myrtle Beach SC; Jay Nettleton and wife Rhonda of Lakewood, CO.; two sisters, Jean Welch of Midland and Evelyn Johnson of Gardendale, Texas; grandchildren Ashley Grenier and husband Joel of Myrtle Beach, SC.; Kelsey Kempter and husband Joe, Lindsey Nettleton, and Kimberly Nettleton, all of Lakewood, CO; stepsons William D. Kuykendall and wife Becky and children & grandchildren, George Kuykendall and wife Kelly and children & grandchildren, all of Christoval, and Chris Kuykendall and wife Kasey of San Angelo and children; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Hospice of San Angelo for the loving care shown to John and our family. Donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, the Wounded Warrior Project, or the Hospice of San Angelo, and are greatly appreciated.
