Jose Jesus "Chuy" Mata, 91, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018, in San Angelo, surrounded by family. Prayer services will be 7:00 PM Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, April 23, 2018, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Jose's son, Lupe Mata, officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Mata was born May 19, 1926 in San Angelo to Guadalupe and Maria Saldana Mata. He married Gloria Alejandro on July 24, 1955 in Nueva Rosita, Mexico, she passed away on August 23, 2015. Jose has been a lifelong resident of San Angelo. He worked for St. Mary's Catholic Church and School in maintenance. Jose also worked as a general contractor doing masonry work. He had a wonderful knack of problem solving. He instilled a very good work ethic to his children. Jose was a devoted son, husband, father and brother who enjoyed spending time with family. He truly lived life to the fullest thru his simple outdoor pleasures: fishing, hunting, gardening and taking care of his animals. Jose was very witty and enjoyed telling jokes. He will be missed by family, friends and all who knew him. Jose was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Francisca Padilla and a granddaughter, Becky Mata. Survivors include three daughters, Adriana Mata Robledo and husband Armando, Sylvia Mata Flores and husband Noe and Rosemary Mata all of San Angelo; five sons, Joe Mata, Julian Mata and wife Margaret, Lupe Mata and wife Gloria, Johnny Mata and wife Maria and Jaime Mata all of San Angelo; a sister, Maria Ninfa Senatore of San Angelo; 21 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Joe Mata, III, Andrew Mata, Marcos Mata, Jacob Flores, Lupe P. Mata, Johnny Mata, Mario Mata and Amador Mata. Honorary pallbearer will be Aaron Ledesma. The family wishes to thank Senior Care Center staff and Kindred Hospice for all their loving care.
