Juanita "Nita" Barnett Carter, precious mother, was received into Heaven on Monday, December 3, 2012. She lived to be 82 years old. Nita was born on October 5th, 1930 in Baskin, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Frank Carter, and her mother, Essie Brown. Nita married Frank in 1952, and took his two girls, Merilyne and Adraine "Tiny", to love as her very own, and added their four boys, Monte, Micci, Michael and Myron for a large, loving family. She led a full life raising her "younguns." As a homemaker, Nita could cook the best chicken-fry this side of the Mississippi. She rejoiced in family gatherings, with 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren that she cherished. Nita was a great listener, and an equally great talker. Everyone was part of the family to her. Nita had a strong faith in Christ as her Redeemer. She was a member of the Harris Avenue Baptist Church along with her sisters. While caring for her family was Nita's favorite "job," she also managed a drive-in movie theatre, worked for R & R Sausage, was among the first women cabbies in San Angelo and even worked as a ranch manager for close to 20 years with Frank. In her spare time she rooted for the Dallas Cowboys with a dachshund in her lap, caught all of the morning soaps, and took a little coffee in her cream and sugar. She had many adventures but was happiest to be at home as a mother, grandmother and caregiver. Thank you to everyone who cared for Nita while she was sick, and thank you to those who helped her to live, work, and raise a family. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4. We will miss the long phone calls and visits with Mame, Mamaw, Aunt Nita and Momma. You will be forever in our hearts! Nita is survived by her daughters, Merilyne Gibson and Adraine "Tiny" Wilkinson, and husband Joe; sons Monte Carter and wife Carol, Micci Carter, Michael Carter and Myron Carter; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and sisters Barbara Pickett and Martha "Mike" Ferris, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 6th at 2:00 p.m., at Harris Avenue Baptist Church, 1026 East Harris Ave., San Angelo, TX. Nita will be laid to rest at 3:30 p.m. in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to her church.
